The VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy classes can be undertaken either once a week on a Monday or over two evenings a week, on a Tuesday and Wednesday, to fit your lifestyle.

COURSE DURATION

32 weeks . Monday once a week or Tuesday/Wednesday evening, Each unit requires home study and assignment work to complete your portfolio along with academy based practical and written assessments.

The minimum age of students is 16 years of age at the commencement of the course, with no upper age limit. You do not have to have previous industry experience. Students must have a good level of English, including well-rounded communication skills and the ability to read and write in English.

As part of your course, you’ll be required to purchase your uniform and any necessary kits to complete practical work. As a student, you’ll be committing to 2 to 3 hours of private study per week, alongside your in-person classes.

The Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy course last for 32-weeks and can be completed as a one-day class or two evenings of class per week. Each module will require you to carry out assignments and home study to develop your portfolio, alongside the practical and written assessments that you will complete during your classes.

How Is the Course Assessed?

You’ll complete a portfolio throughout your course of study as your primary means of assessment. Your portfolio will require you to undertake independent study and compile your work together. The practical skills taught in the course will be assessed during each module by your course lecturers and through written assessments. Due to the nature of your assessments, you’ll need to be able to dedicate time for independent study to produce a high-quality portfolio to receive your accreditation.

 

What Can I Do After?

Upon completion of your Level 2 Diploma, you can decide to pursue further study and build your skills with a Level 3 Diploma in Beauty Therapy. You could also diversify your portfolio by undertaking a hairdressing course. Alternatively, you can enter the industry as a junior beauty therapist.

You’ll learn about eyebrow and eyelash treatments, including the health and safety measures for in-salon services. This training includes how to sterilise and sanitise tools and equipment and how to identify skin disorders. Practical skills include treatment preparation and how to prepare your kit before the appointment. You’ll develop the skills needed to carry out client consultations to enable you to advise clients on the most suitable treatment.

 

Your lecturers will carry out full demonstrations on:

  • Eyebrow and eyelash tinting.
  • Eyebrow shaping.
  • Eyelash extensions.
  • Strip lashes.
  • Individual lash extensions.

 

You’ll have an opportunity to trial these treatments through practical classes and learn about aftercare advice to provide the clients. Your classes will also cover pricing recommendations for these services.

 

Manicure:

During your manicure module, you’ll become familiar with the health and safety practices, including sterilising and sanitising tools. Theory work revolves around the function and structure of the skin and nails, including the anatomy and physiology of the foot and leg. Practical skills will focus on treatment preparation, with your course lecturers conducting full demonstrations on the techniques of both a basic and luxury pedicure. Your work will cover all the relevant equipment and products you need, including how to carry out a client consultation.

 

Your module focuses on the following treatments:

  • Basic and luxury pedicures.
  • Exfoliating treatments.
  • Massage techniques for feet and lower legs.
  • Masks and paraffin wax.
  • Product knowledge and recommendations.

 

During your practice session, you will carry out basic and luxury pedicure and become familiar with aftercare advice. Your classes will also cover pricing recommendations for these services.

 

Waxing 

This module will include how to identify skin diseases and disorders, along with standard health and safety practices. You’ll gain the knowledge to carry out client consultations by studying hair structure and cycle to recommend appropriate treatments.

 

Wax treatments and techniques include:

  • Abdomen (full and half)
  • Back (full and half)
  • Bikini (full and half)
  • Chest (full and half)
  • Chin (hot and cool)
  • Eyebrow (hot and cool)
  • Forearm (hot and cool)
  • Top lip (hot and cool)
  • Underarm (hot and cool)

 

You’ll have an opportunity to practice each of these treatments following full demonstrations by your course instructors. Your classes will also cover aftercare advice and pricing recommendations for these services.

 

Makeup Course

During this module, you’ll learn the foundation skills you need for any professional makeup application. It’ll cover healthy and safety practices, including sanitising makeup brushes and equipment. You’ll learn the knowledge and skills required to carry out client consultations and to give you experience in a variety of makeup types, including bridal.

 

This module covers:

  • Corrective makeup
  • Facial, eyes, and lip shapes.
  • Skin prep.
  • Matching skin tones and colours.
  • Highlight and contouring techniques.

 

Your practice session will give you the chance to carry out makeup application in a commercial setting, including bridal, day, and evening makeup looks. Your classes will also cover pricing recommendations for these services.

 

Full Facial Treatments

Your facial module will cover health and safety practices and focus on the structure and function of the skin, to give you a solid foundation for any beauty treatment. You’ll learn about the anatomy and physiology of relevant bones, along with the muscles and lymphatic systems. Your work will focus on understanding how to carry out skin analysis and treat specific skin diseases and disorders. As part of your lessons, you’ll learn the characteristics of black and Asian skin types and how to prepare for your treatments.

 

Your facial treatment training includes:

  • Applying face masks.
  • Exfoliating and extraction.
  • Facial massage techniques.
  • How to use skincare products.
  • Product knowledge and recommendation.
  • Skin type knowledge.
  • Steaming the skin.
  • Using aromatherapy and facial oils.

 

The course instructors will carry out full demonstrations on massage techniques and routines, including aftercare advice. You’ll have an opportunity to take part in a practical session to perform a full facial. Your classes will also cover pricing recommendations for these services.

 

Commercial Salon

One week of the course will turn the tables and work on the aspects of the programme that you feel like you need help with. It’s an opportunity for practical work to give you the confidence you need to carry out specific treatments.

Are There Extra Costs?

Along with the cost of your programme, there are additional costs you should budget for. You’ll be required to purchase your kit and uniform before you start your course.

 

  • The beauty kit is itemised and includes all the products and tools you’ll need for practical classes. You’ll also need this kit for your independent study.
  • Your uniform is part of your professional image and reflects what you would wear in a commercial session. You will be required to wear your uniform to all classes.

 

Your kit and uniform are compulsory for the course, and further details will be provided to you during the interview process.

 

As part of your uniform, you’ll wear a tunic topic with black trousers and black closed-toed flat shoes. Jewellery and piercings are not allowed to be worn during class time. Your hair should be neatly tied back, with your fringe secured. We request that you avoid nail enhancements and keep your nails clean, short, and natural. You should only wear light daytime makeup to class.
